Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences Privacy Policy

“Academy” will be used throughout this agreement to refer to Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences, an Oakland, California not-for-profit institution of higher learning, as well as its business services and its website. For convenience, “Academy” will be used heretofore to represent all services, except in cases where the section applies to a specific Academy service and/or administration.

Academy’s Privacy Philosophy
Academy and the services it offers were designed to meet the needs of student communities. Concepts of privacy and security, as applied to the website services, is important to the Academy. Accordingly, the Academy stresses the importance of clear communication when addressing the terms and conditions surrounding the capture, use, and/or the dissemination of information regarding Academy website users and students. This privacy statement discloses the nature of the information gathered, how it is used, to whom it is disseminated, and how an Academy Web user may access and correct or change the data.

Information Gathered
The Academy typically collects one type of user-focused information:

  • Personal Data, provided by the user through alumni registration , subscriptions to newsletters and the user’s voluntary participation in surveys.

Personal data is information that is generally requested when a new user submits information via the Academy website or when subscribing to a newsletter. The requested information may include , among other things, your name, e-mail address, graduation date, birth date, profession, gender, residential and business postal address, ZIP code and/or country information. Except as described below, user information is not willfully disclosed to parties other than the Academy.

How the Academy Uses Information
The Academy uses any personal information offered by our Web users as tools to enhance the student and/or alumni customer experience. Also, based on the interests demonstrated through the patterns of use, personal information may be used to gather statistical data regarding occupation, interests, and populated lists of information, such as newsletters, that may have been requested by the user. The Academy will use personal information only when the purpose and manner of disclosure is clearly defined in advance, when disclosure is legally required, or when protecting our rights.

Cookies and Tracking
A "cookie" is the term used to identify a small data file which websites often write to a user's hard drive when a site is visited. The cookie file can contain various bits of information that can anonymously and consistently identify overall traffic patterns on a site. A cookie cannot read data off a hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. The data can be encrypted for added security. The Academy uses cookies as a way to measure activity on the site in order to continually improve your experience.

Web browsers can be set to offer a warning before allowing any cookies to be written. A browser’s preferences can be set to refuse cookies in all cases. The Academy website will function without the use of cookies, but without accepting a cookie, users will have to log in each time they access the site.

Electronic Newsletters and Opting Out
The Academy distributes free, electronic newsletters as a service to subscribers. Users will receive the newsletter unless he or she "opts-out" during the initial registration process or sends an e-mail notification to info@acchs.edu with the words "opt out" in the subject field. Unless a subscriber voluntarily permits us to do so when registering his or her account, newsletter mailing lists are not willfully shared with any third parties, including advertisers or affiliated service partners.

Message Boards or Discussion Areas
Any information, including personal data,entered and posted to message boards, discussion areas, websites, and any other formats become public information. Use caution during chat sessions and always consider the possible ramifications prior to offering any personal information across the Web.

Academy’s Content Providers, Advertisers and Affiliated Service Partners
The Academy will not provide any user's personal information to anyone outside of the Academy, its companies, and/or affiliated service partners except in the limited circumstances mentioned above.

Changes to Policy
The Academy reserves the right to amend, alter, or modify this policy at any time and in any manner. Any amendment, alteration, or modification is effective immediately or upon posting on the Academy’s website.

Correct/Update User Information or Services
The Academy allows its members to access and correct or change the information collected during user registration. The instructions for doing this can be found in the Alumni area under the heading "Alumni Data Submission". This information may be changed at any time and within reason, as often as necessary. Users experiencing any problems or with any questions about any services should contact the Academy.

Delete/Deactivate Policy
Currently, Academy and its services do not offer a means by which to delete, completely, personal information established at the time of registration. If you have questions about your information, please contact us at the Academy.
